01 - Flavour notes

What the light
left in the fruit.

Notes that taste of where they grew, sun on the leaf, cool river air, and the patient sugars of a desert night.

  • Spices
  • Blue Berry
  • Wood
  • Black Cherry
02 - Tasting Portrait

Stand among
the vines.

  • NoseAn appealing, layered lift of ripe cherry and blueberry with a gentle spice, and just a breath of oak behind the fruit — the smell of the red rows late in the afternoon.
  • PalateJuicy, soft and plush. Blueberry and cassis with allspice undertones and a twist of black pepper, framed by a subtle tannin drawn from time in oak. Generous, but easy.
  • FinishSmooth and fruit-forward, the spice trailing gently. Best served slightly chilled, the way the heat here asks for.

The living land

The Kalahari on the Bottle

This bottle captures the fierce spirit of the dunes—two gemsbok locked in an unyielding clash of horns as the red dust rises beneath them. Enduring the harshest extremes on earth, the oryx is an enduring symbol of territorial power, balance, and quiet dignity.

We named this blend Royal Oryx after its hero varietal, Pinot Noir—known among winemakers as the prince of the noble grapes. That regal heritage meets desert grit in the bottle: structured, deeply rounded, and carrying the warmth of ancient soils. Illustrated in ink and watercolour by our fourth-generation winemaker, the artwork waited for a red blend bold enough to match its raw energy.

04 - The ritual of opening

Slow it down,
a little.

Serve

A red that likes a touch of cool — the desert taught us even the reds enjoy it.

  • Lightly chilled, 14–16 °C — twenty minutes in the fridge before pouring lifts the cherry and keeps the wine fresh.
  • Give it air — a few minutes in the glass, or a quick decant, and the spice and soft oak settle into one voice.
  • In a wide bowl — room for the blueberry and black cherry to open.
Pair with

Built for food from the fire:

  • A slow braai — lamb, beef short rib, or boerewors with char.
  • Mushroom dishes, roast vegetables, and earthy grains.
  • Medium-matured cheeses and charcuterie boards.
