Fed by the life-giving waters of the Orange River, this extraordinary landscape transforms South Africa's largest desert into a ribbon of agricultural abundance. Vineyards stretch towards the horizon. Date palms sway in the warm breeze. Citrus orchards perfume the air.

The Green Kalahari forms the heart of the Orange River Wine Route, one of South Africa's most distinctive viticultural regions. Intense sunshine, cool evening temperatures and mineral-rich alluvial soils create conditions that winemakers and distillers have learned to honour and harness.

At Bezalel we have worked this land for decades, across generations, letting the terroir speak through every bottle: patient potstill brandies, sun-ripened reds and crisp, refreshing whites.

A base for Northern Cape adventure

The Green Kalahari is also a natural base for some of South Africa's most iconic natural wonders. Augrabies Falls thunders about an hour's drive away; the legendary Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park stretches north into the desert; river cruises, cultural landmarks and scenic drives all radiate outward from this central corridor.

Twenty minutes from Upington and Keimoes along the N14, the estate has welcomed travellers from around the world. It is a place to come back to after a day of exploring, with a cold glass of wine and the warmth of the Farm Kitchen waiting.

Where two great routes meet

Bezalel sits where two of the region's best-loved journeys meet: the Quiver Tree Route, which follows the lush river corridor through quiver trees and date farms, and the Kalahari Red Dune Route, which ventures deep into the red-sand desert. A two-day Orange River race from Keimoes downstream to Augrabies. The start at Keimoes is just 18 km from the estate, so Bezalel is an easy base for paddlers, supporters and families before the first stage and after the last.
